I started studying iconography in 2000. All my childhood, I would incessantly ask my beloved Mum, “What can I do with my hands?” A treasured moment in my life when I was in my mid thirties was when my Mother, late in her life, despite memory loss from dementia, remembered clearly and without any confusion the creative yearning of her youngest child and about seeing my icons lovingly looked into my heart and soul and said, “It must be so nice to finally know what you are supposed to do with hands!”
Although I also feel called to write prose and poetry, nothing speaks to and energizes my creative spirit like the practice of writing icons.
My studio has the “Joy Of All Who Sorrow” icon of the Theotokos as patron. The Birthgiver of God is always named M.P.O.V. in icons, hence the acronym manifested for the name of my little studio~ M.y P.alette O.f V.iew Iconography.
I work in egg tempera on gessoed wood boards using all-natural pigments and gilded 24 karat gold leaf.
As my teacher taught me, “Icons are JOY!”. It would be an honor and a privilege to share the joy of my icons with you. I welcome the opportunity to hear what icons speak to you, and that you are searching for to enrich your spiritual life; ones already painted, or ones still to be opened and written based on your preferences.
